GUWAHATI, January 8, 2026: The Department of Physics, The Assam Royal Global
University (RGU), Guwahati, inaugurated the National Conference on Frontiers in Modern Physics, Astrophysics
and Cosmology (NCMPAC-2026) today. The three-day national conference, scheduled from 8th to 10th January
2026, is sponsored by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Government of India.
The inaugural session was presided over by the Vice Chancellor of RGU, Prof. Alak K. Buragohain, who
delivered the presidential address. Emphasizing the transformative potential of quantum technologies, he
highlighted the fundamental role of quantum phenomena, ranging from light-matter interaction to biological
processes such as photosynthesis, in shaping future scientific and technological advancements.
Prof. Amarendra Rajput, Advisor, Department of Physics, revisited the historical evolution of quantum
mechanics, drawing connections between early cosmological events following the Big Bang and fundamental
questions concerning the origin and existence of humanity. Prof. Anuradha Devi, Dean, Royal School of
Applied and Pure Sciences, addressed the gathering and emphasized the critical role of national conferences
in fostering a vibrant research culture, promoting academic collaboration, and encouraging young researchers
to engage with frontier areas of science. A key highlight of the inaugural ceremony was the release of the
Abstract Book by the dignitaries, formally marking the commencement of the scientific deliberations of
NCMPAC-2026.
The academic programme continued with a Keynote Lecture delivered by Prof. Saurabh Basu, Indian Institute of
Technology Guwahati, on the topic “Non-Hermitian Models and their Topolectric Circuit Realizations.” The
session was chaired by Prof. Bipin Kumar Gupta, National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi, and stimulated
insightful discussions on emerging theoretical and experimental paradigms in condensed matter and applied
physics.
Earlier, Dr. Maidul Islam, Convenor of NCMPAC-2026 and Coordinator, Department of Physics, RGU, delivered
the welcome address, extending a warm greeting to the dignitaries, speakers, delegates, and participants.
The objectives of the conference were outlined by Dr. Nitu Borgohain, who highlighted the importance of
interdisciplinary dialogue in addressing contemporary scientific challenges across modern physics,
astrophysics, and cosmology. The inaugural proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr.
Faizuddin Ahmed.
In addition to keynote and plenary lectures, the conference features invited talks, parallel technical
sessions, and poster presentations over the next two days, offering a dynamic platform for scientific
exchange, collaboration, and dissemination of recent research findings.
