Student Visas are provided to individuals who wish to come to India and study at a recognized university. The entire process of student visa application only requires three simple steps:
Individuals are first required to fill an online application form by visiting the official website of the Government of India: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/
After filling up the application form, applicants are required to submit it along with all the required documents at the Indian Visa Application Centre or at the Indian Mission.
After successful document verification, the passport and student visa are generated, which the applicant can retrieve from the Visa Application Centre or the Indian Mission.
Indian Missions/Embassies grant a student visa for a period of five years or for the duration of the course of study, whichever is less. The student visa will be provided on the following grounds:
To foreign students coming to India to pursue full-time and regular academic studies in India.
To foreign students coming for industrial training, summer projects and internships.
The provisional student visa is valid for six months for students exploring admission options.
Applicants should provide proof of admission to a full-time regular academic programme in a reputed institution in India along with evidence of financial support.
In case of admission in a medical or paramedical programme, a “No Objection Certificate” from the Ministry of Health may also be required.
Spouse and dependent family members accompanying the applicant may apply for an Entry Visa. The Entry Visa will terminate once the principal visa holder's visa period ends.
Foreign students may apply for visa extension for a period of one year at a time up to five years. Extension must be sponsored by the university and the process generally involves the following:
Visit the FRROs/District Superintendent of Police (FRROs).
The FRRO/FRRO cum Superintendent of Police can grant extension on a year-to-year basis.
