RGU Celebrates 80th Independence Day with Patriotic and Cultural Grandeur
GUWAHATI, August 15, 2026: The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) celebrated
the 80th Independence Day of India with patriotic fervour and cultural splendour, as the entire campus came
alive in the vibrant colours of the Tricolour. The celebrations featured inspiring speeches, soulful music,
traditional dance and a colourful cultural presentation, reflecting the spirit of unity in diversity that
defines the nation.
The National Flag was unfurled at 8:55 a.m. on the University campus by Dr. A. K. Pansari, Chancellor, RGU,
in the presence of Shri A. K. Modi, Pro Chancellor, and Shri Ankur Pansari, Pro Chancellor. The
flag-hoisting ceremony was accompanied by a Guard of Honour presented by the NCC cadets, NSS volunteers and
security personnel of the University. This was followed by the National Anthem and a patriotic address,
setting the tone for the day’s celebrations.
Adding a rich musical dimension to the occasion, Mr. Mayukh Hazarika, Professor of Practice, Royal School of
Communication and Media, presented a soulful patriotic song. The programme also featured a mesmerising
Sattriya dance performance by Dr. Baburam Saikia, Assistant Professor, Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems,
showcasing Assam’s rich cultural heritage.
The musical celebrations continued with a melodious performance by Dr. Maitrayee Patar, Assistant Professor,
Department of Sociology, which further enlivened the patriotic atmosphere on campus. The cultural programme
also featured a vibrant group dance titled “Swadesh: The Spirit of India”, celebrating the diverse cultural
traditions and collective spirit of the nation.
The programme concluded with a special fashion show presented by the faculty and staff of RGU, celebrating
the cultural diversity, traditional attire and rich heritage of different regions of India. The presentation
beautifully brought together the many colours and traditions of the country, reinforcing the message of
unity in diversity.
The Independence Day celebrations followed a solemn observance of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day by the
Department of English, Royal Global University, on August 14. The day-long programme featured an open
discussion and photography exhibition and was organised in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National
Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Regional Centre, Guwahati, under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The programme provided an opportunity for students and faculty members to reflect upon the painful memories
and human experiences associated with the Partition, while reinforcing the importance of peace, harmony and
national unity.
