GUWAHATI, August 28, 2026: The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) is hosting a series of academic training sessions under its Scholar-in-Residence initiative, featuring Dr. Licia Proserpio, Social Anthropologist and Assistant Professor at the University of Bologna, Italy, who has joined the University as a Visiting Faculty from August 25 to September 2, 2026.
As part of the programme, a session on “Social Science Research: Fieldwork and Academic Publishing” was held today, providing a valuable platform for the exchange of scholarly perspectives, substantive discussion and exploration of effective approaches to conducting impactful research.
The session witnessed active academic engagement from members of the RGU faculty community, PhD scholars, and undergraduate and postgraduate students. Dr. Proserpio’s expertise and international academic perspective contributed significantly to the discussions, enriching participants’ understanding of contemporary approaches to social science research, fieldwork and academic publishing.
During her visit, Dr. Proserpio will conduct a total of four academic sessions focusing on Social Science Research, Fieldwork and Academic Publishing. The sessions have been designed to strengthen research capacities and encourage meaningful academic dialogue among faculty members and students of the University.
Dr. Proserpio has an interdisciplinary background in the social sciences, with research interests spanning education policy, social movements, civil society, and higher education in Asian contexts. Her first monograph, Resistance through Higher Education: Myanmar Universities’ Struggle against Authoritarianism, was published by Bristol University Press in 2024. Her forthcoming co-authored monograph, When Classrooms Drown: Climate Vulnerability and Poverty in Pakistan, is scheduled for publication by UCL Press in 2027.
