RGU observes National Public Relations Day

GUWAHATI, April 22, 2026: The Royal School of Communication and Media, in collaboration with the PRSI Guwahati Chapter, observed the National Public Relations Day on 21st April 2026 at the premises of the Assam Royal Global University. The topic of panel discussion was “Public Relations: The Emerging Fifth Pillar of Democracy”, which had expert panellists from diverse field.

Ms. Rooma Chakraborty, Chairperson of the PRSI Guwahati Chapter gave the welcome speech which was followed by PRSI's message by Ms. M. S. Mazumdar, Vice President (East), PRSI. Dr. P.J. Baruah, Dean, RSCOM, emphasised how public relations has been an integral part of communication since ancient times and plays a crucial role in promoting transparency, accountability, and trust between the government and citizens. Prof. (Dr.) Alak Kumar Buragohain, Vice Chancellor, RGU, shared his thoughts on the importance of the public sphere, bridging the gap between government policies and public aspirations, and highlighting the need for ethical public relations through honest and truthful communication.

The esteemed panellists were - Mr Anjan K. Borthakur, Retd. Senior GM & Regional Head, HR for NE, Powergrid Corp., Mr. Ghulam Kibriya, Founder, Exclusive Advertisement Pvt. Ltd., Dr. Sayanika Dutta (HOD, Mass Communication, Journalism & Media Studies, Cotton University), Col. Dibya Shankar Bhattacharya (Indian Defence), Loreta A. Kharmawphlang (DGM Corporate Communication, NEEPCO) and Mujahidul Islam, a student representative of RSCOM. The session was very well moderated by Mr. Surajit Singha Roy, Vice Chaiman, PRSI, Guwahati. The session highlighted how public relations helps decode laws at the grassroots level.

The event concluded with a soothing musical performance by Ms. Shromona Dey, a folk singer from Kolkata.
