The Royal School of Communications and Media (RSCOM), The Assam Royal Global University marked National Press Day 2025 by attending the state-level observance organised by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Assam, at the PWD Convention and Training Centre, Dispur on 16th November, 2025. The event, held under the theme “Safeguarding Press Credibility Amidst Rising Misinformation,” featured distinguished speakers including Shri Mukesh Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Assam; Prof. (Dr.) Dhrubajyoti Borah, Vice Chancellor of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences and President of Asam Sahitya Sabha; Shri Kumar Padmapani Bora, Commissioner & Secretary, I≺ veteran journalist Shri Pradeep Barua; and senior journalists Shri Dilip Chandan and Shri Bhupendra Kumar Bhattacharjya. Addressing the key challenges faced by the media today, the speakers highlighted the issues of misinformation, globalization, digital influence, and the need for stronger ethical frameworks. Shri Pradeep Barua cautioned against sensationalism, comparing journalists to “bees seeking nectar or flies drawn to decay,” while Prof. Borah stressed the rising impact of finance capital and technology on press integrity. The students of BA Journalism and Mass Communication from RSCOM gained firsthand insight into the values and responsibilities that shape credible journalism. The event served as a reminder of the press’s essential role in sustaining democratic values, accuracy, and public trust.
